Understand your training requirements before you start your online training program. Here are a few questions to ask before you start a course.

Training Tips: Before Taking Online Mandated Reporter Training

Mandated reporters often have training requirements based on their state and profession. It is common for some professionals to have multiple training requirements. For example, medical professionals in many states are mandated reporters of child abuse and elder/ dependent adult abuse. These same medical professionals may also be required to take implicit bias training to obtain or renew their licenses. Having a clear picture of your full training requirements can help make your online training program more efficient.

How often do you need to take training?

Your training renewal period can vary based on your profession. In California, teachers and school personnel are required to renew their child abuse reporting training annually, while daycare and childcare providers must renew their child abuse reporting training every two years.

Is your training certificate still valid?

A new employer or organization may have assigned you training. Do you need to renew your training, or do you have an existing, valid certificate you can share? If you have completed an online training using the Mandated Reporter Training platform, you have been issued a verifiable certificate of completion. Your new employer/ organization may accept that certificate as proof that you are up-to-date on training requirements.

Find out why Mandated Reporter Training certificates are verifiable and easily authenticated.

After you understand what types of training you need and how often you need to renew a training, you can register or log in to the Mandated Reporter Training platform. Add your necessary trainings to your dashboard, and begin training.

Training Tips: While Taking Online Mandated Reporter Training

Understanding the training process will help you make your online training experience as efficient as possible.

How long will training take?

Training times can vary. Training requirements vary based on the states or professional boards approving the training. In general, online mandatory reporter training can take one to two hours to complete.

California nurses can earn CE on these board-approved trainings.

What device is best for training?

You can take online training at the Mandated Reporter Training platform using the internet-connected device of your choice. Two-thirds of our platform users train on a desktop/ laptop computer, while one-third log in on their mobile devices to complete their online training.

Can you pause a training and then pick it back up?

You can stop and restart a training at any time without losing your progress. This can make it easy for busy professionals to take training anytime it’s convenient, whether at work or at home. If you need to leave a training in the middle of your session, the Mandated Reporter Training platform will save your place, and you can pick up where you left off when you return to your training.

What is the training process?

Most mandatory training follows the same process: take a training, complete an exam to demonstrate your understanding of the materials, and then access your certificate of completion.

In general, the online training process involves three steps:

  1. Complete online training
  2. Take exam
  3. Access certificate

There may be instances where this process varies slightly. For example, the Mandated Reporter Training platform collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security’s Know2Protect campaign to create a 20-minute training with no exam. This short online training is part of Know2Protect’s efforts to raise awareness of the critical issue of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSEA). Because it is an awareness-level training, there is no exam requirement to access a certificate of completion.

CSEA has reached global epidemic proportions as online predators target children and teens online, on social media apps, and gaming platforms. Learn more about this training and how you can help protect kids from online threats.

Training Tips: After Taking Online Mandated Reporter Training

If you were invited to train as part of an organization, you can share your certificate with your organization from within the platform. If you are not part of an organization, you can download the certificate to provide proof of training.
